چکیده
This study investigated the fermentability of hemicellulosic hydrolysates obtained by intensified steam explosion pretreatment switchgrass (Panicum virgatum) and Eucalyptus globulus. Xylitol carotenoids were high-value molecules produced fermentation. The allowed to process a large amount biomass per unit time resulted in containing high sugars, among which, significant fraction was form oligomers (eucalyptus hydrolysate: 25.0 g/L 50.6 monomeric sugars; 18.9 39.6 sugars). To be used as fermentation media, post-hydrolysis step applied increase content sugars hydrolysates. Then, detoxification carried out reduce concentration inhibitors present. Two evolved yeasts for fermentation: Kluyveromyces marxianus xylitol production, Rhodosporidium toruloides production. Results revealed that eucalyptus present good can produce valuable compounds such xylitol, after detoxification. K. presented better tolerance inhibitory still detoxified (acetic acid up 3.94 phenolic 2.28 g/L) than R. toruloides, which favored production xylitol. Finally, found potential strategy obtain with reducing need subsequent step. Moreover, this recover from hydrolysates, offering extra value biorefinery. Altogether, findings contribute advancement technology valorization

Steam explosion pretreatment for enhancing biogas production of Alpine hay
Growing grassland biomass in an extensive way and its subsequent transformation into hay for a further utilization in a biogas-based biorefinery concept could be a solution to increase incomes and maintain the grassland area. In this way, gassland can be promising biomass sources for decentralized energy generation. Efficient biogas production from this lignocellulosic biomass requires a pretre...
متن کاملXylitol Production from Eucalyptus Wood Hydrolysates in Low-Cost Fermentation Media
Several aspects concerning the bioconversion of xylose-containing hydrolysates (obtained from Eucalyptus wood) into xylitol were assessed. Debaryomyces hansenii yeast strains were adapted to fermentation media (obtained either by prehydrolysis or autohydrolysis-posthydrolysis of wood) supplemented with low-cost nutrients. Media containing up to 80 g/L xylose were efficiently fermented when the ...

1.1 Motivation and environmental aspects The combustion of fossil fuels is responsible for 73% of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere and therefore contributes significantly to global warming. Interest in the development of methods to reduce greenhouse gases has increased enormously. In order to control such emissions, many advanced technologies have been developed, which help in reduc...
متن کاملFeasibility Study on Vanillin Production from Jatropha curcas Stem Using Steam Explosion as a Pretreatment
Jatropha curcas stem was analyzed for chemical compositions: 19.11% pentosan, 42.99% alphacellulose and 24.11% lignin based on dry weight of 100-g raw material. The condition to fractionate cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin in J. curcas stem using steam explosion was optimized. The procedure started from cutting J. curcas stem into small pieces and soaked in water for overnight. After that, t...
